Swiss asset manager responsAbility is planning to explore tokenization with Sweden’s Phlomis Finance. While responsAbility may not be a household name, it has made $15.7 billion in private impact investments to date. The company has $5.1 billion in assets under management. That includes acting as portfolio manager for the state Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets (SIFEM).
The Phlomis collaboration won’t target mainstream institutional investors. Instead, the goal of the partnership is for Phlomis to help responsAbility reach a new group of investors: those in the crypto and digital asset space.
responsAbility targets financial inclusion, climate finance and sustainable food, funding micro entrepreneurs and businesses in emerging markets.
“We are excited to work with Phlomis Finance to develop a new channel and paradigm for impact investments tailored to the growing segment of digital asset holders,” said Robert Widen, Director of the Nordics for responsAbility. “We believe our investment products, which provide attractive returns with specific, measurable impact, will appeal to digital asset investors.”
Phlomis Finance is a new startup targeting ‘resilient investing’. Digital asset investors have a habit of being overweight in cryptocurrencies. It aims to provide a more balanced portfolio by partnering with asset managers to make tokenized real world assets (RWA) available on chain. It wants to provide ‘proven’ investment products on-chain.
Chromia blockchain and Chromaway
The startup has a close association with the Chromia blockchain, which aims to make the blockchain experience more like a relational database. It includes a programming language, Rell, which will be familiar to SQL users, the main way to query databases. Chromia is Ethereum (EVM) compatible and has been around for quite some time. Its token is ranked at 354 according to Coingecko.
The managing director of Phlomis, Todd Miller, ran business development for Chromaway, the founder of Chromia. Chromaway has been involved in various blockchain applications, including in Latin America working with IDB on a land registry and in the EU on product passports.
